The Alchemy of Arran: My Journey into Fused Glass
Welcome to my studio—a Wonka-style laboratory in Lamlash where cold glass meets volcano-hot kilns.
My journey as an artist is an enchanting one, fueled by the mystical landscapes of the Isle of Arran and a deep fascination with the ancient art of glass fusing. From the intricate geometry of Celtic crosses to the playful spirit of my glass turtles, every piece that leaves my kiln is a capture of light and color.
Why Glass Fusing?
For me, glass isn't just a material; it’s a medium for boundless creativity. By skillfully layering different colors and textures of glass and subjecting them to controlled heating (reaching up to $804^{\circ}\text{C}$), I can create patterns that are visually striking and emotionally resonant. Whether it’s the amber glow of a David Bowie portrait or the serene blues of a Buddha, each piece tells a story of precision and fire.
Step Inside the Workshop
They say the best way to understand an artist is to see where they work. I’m proud to be a part of the Arran Art Trail and Arran Open Studios. It’s in this space that I experiment with new techniques—like my current work transposing topographical maps of Arran into shimmering glass reliefs.
